Our Practice

Robert Bonaparte and Nell Hoffman Bonaparte founded Bonaparte & Bonaparte, LLP in 2000. Stephen Leggatt joined the firm in 2022. In 2024, the firm changed its name to Bonaparte & Leggatt.

The firm has two distinct practice areas.

Insurance Disputes and Complex Litigation

Robert Bonaparte has been a pioneer in helping Oregon homeowners not only obtain insurance coverage, but also attorney fees, from recalcitrant insurers, following disasters such as fires or floods. He has since expanded his practice to provide insurance consulting advice to businesses facing litigation.

Stephen Leggatt is also a seasoned litigator with experience in insurance coverage and other complex litigation and expertise in attorney fee disputes. Having spent over fifteen years as a federal juridical clerk, including on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, he is also very comfortable with federal litigation and appellate law.

Trusts and Estates

Nell Bonaparte has years of experience in intellectual property and civil litigation. Following special training at Willamette Law School in wills and trusts, she shifted her focus to helping clients with their estate planning goals, probate, and trust administration.
